Resilience required in Building a Better Future

As educators our goal is to help learners to participate in building a better future. Building on the strengths and abilities of the stakeholders, resilience, or self-efficacy is what makes people pick themselves up and have another go.

Each global context has different stakeholder needs. In the Burundi Refugee camps, education is a ticket to the future. Learning Spaces can provide a safe place, and some kind of normalcy in an otherwise liminal situation. The 'curriculum' in the camps initially may focus on urgent needs such as hygiene kits or safe drinking water, empowering stakeholders to be leaders of change in their community. Designing the curriculum to suit the needs of the community would involve partnerships and collaboration.

“Education enables children and youth to thrive, not just survive.”
